SH-2F WEAPON SYSTEM TRAINER, DEVICE 2F106

The SH-2F Weapon System Trainer produces a realistic flight and tactical environment for training helicopter pilots, copilots, and sensor operators.

For pilots and copilots, it offers excellent flight and ground handling characteristics; total training in instrument and cockpit procedures; computer generated visual presentation of airstrip or ship landing sites; visual presentation of submarine and ship targets, sonobuoys, and smoke markers; realistic motion cues; and a simulation of aircraft sounds in normal and emergency situations.

For sensor operator training in anti-submarine warfare, the trainer provides simulated aircraft, ship, and submarine radar returns; simulated and torpedoes; and total simulation of the acoustic environment.

With cooperation of the Naval Air Training Center, Patuxent, Md., Device 2F 106 is the first helicopter flight trainer proven and verified by utilizing flight test data which was specifically obtained to evaluate the trainer. As a result, Device 2F106 produces an extremely faithful duplication of flight characteristics and performance.

In addition, because of the faithful simulation of ship and submarine targets and sonobuoy emissions, Device 2F106 is the first trainer to allow realistic ASW training in a simulated training environment. This results in significant training economy. The trainer greatly reduces the need for operational helicopters, submarines, and ships to train sensor operators in a deep-water training area.

The SH-2F aircraft simulated in Reflectone’s trainer is a single rotor, twin turbine, all weather helicopter which is configured to the U.S. Navy’s requirements for a Light Airborne Multipurpose System (LAMPS). Its combined mission capabilities includes ASW and anti-ship missile defense as well as rescue, observation, reconnaissance, and cargo handling. Kaman Aerospace Corporation, Conn. manufactures the SH-2F.
